Courses List
English Programmes
Students follow in-house schemes of work, covering speaking, listening, reading and writing plus pronunciation and vocabulary work.
Small class size offers the opportunity for students to develop their English in a programme of negotiated content between students and teacher. Great emphasis is placed on developing all aspects of communication. You will study all four skill areas, underpinned by grammar and pronunciation.
Students learn English in a relaxed atmosphere with people of a similar age. Lesson content and the activity programme are linked as much as possible.
The Legal English course is designed for law students, practising lawyers and other professionals working in the legal sector. Course length is 2 weeks, with the first week focusing on legal English and the second on preparation for TOLES.
Business English course is aimed at individuals wishing to concentrate on a particular subject or area of business. The lesson content is entirely negotiated with the teacher, based on our Needs Analysis.
The Cambridge Courses have been designed to help students understand the criteria required for each exam and give them the skills necessary to meet their targets. Lessons include a range of approaches and strategies to build understanding, activate usage and increase comprehension.
The IELTS course is extremely flexible, running all year. Students join the General English course for 15 hours in the mornings and take 8 hours of intensive IELTS preparation in the afternoons.
This course is designed for more mature students and professionals wanting to improve their General English. The afternoons include 3 rounds of golf at a delightful parkland course (with 18 holes) and stunning views over Lyme Bay and Dartmoor.
This programme is designed for families who would like to improve their English whilst enjoying a holiday in one of the most vibrant and picturesque areas of England. Adults can join one of the General English or more specialist courses. Children, aged 6-15 years, can join our half-day or full day English course for juniors throughout the year.
The Young Learners Academy combines English language tuition with a variety of activities and excursions, all designed to expand and enhance the learning experience. This all takes place in and around the beautiful seaside town of Torquay at the heart of ‘The English Riviera’ .
Accommodation
Staying with a host family is the best way to experience British culture and practice your English at the same time. Whatever your age, nationality or requirements, we recommend homestays.
The school has a partner bed & breakfast guest house, Ferndale Lodge, which is an ideal choice for mature students age 30+. The guest house is just 1 minute walk from the school, within a five-minute walk from the town centre and another 10-15 minutes to the lively harbour-side with lots of pubs, restaurants and cafes along the way.
You will enjoy a warm and friendly atmosphere where you can join in with others or work quietly on your own. All of the rooms have a single or double bed with en-suite bathroom.
We have a range of self-catering apartments in Torquay if you would like to be more independent. Suitable for families, friends or independent travellers.
